Bingley is a market town and civil parish in the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, on the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

The A650 trunk road passes through Bingley. Through traffic has been diverted onto the new dual carriageway avoiding the town centre. The start of this road is only a stone’s throw away for the entrance to Cottingley Business Park. The road passes north-west to Keighley and south-east to Shipley and Bradford. Bingley is served by a number of bus services including the 680 between Bradford and Bingley, the 616 / 619 services between Bradford and Eldwick and the 622 service between Bingley and Bradford operated by First West Yorkshire, the 662 between Bradford and Keighley, the 60 between Leeds and Keighley and the K17 / K19 services between Keighley and Cullingworth operated by Keighley Bus Company.

The Airedale Line, part of the West Yorkshire Metro railway network passes through Bingley. It is operated by Northern Trains. Bingley railway station still has many historical features.

The Leeds and Liverpool Canal passes through Bingley. There are several flights of locks in the Bingley section, the famous Five Rise Locks, the smaller Three Rise and a further two lock flight at Dowley Gap. The canal climbs steeply up the side of the Aire valley through this section.

Bingley has a large town centre with Post Office, Skipton Building Society, Aldi & Lidl supermarkets, plus smaller Co-op & Sainsburys. There are several pubs serving good quality meals throughout the day.

There is plenty of parking available throughout the town if employees are popping out for lunch.

Shipley is a historic market town and civil parish in the City of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, by the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, north of Bradford. The population of the Shipley ward on Bradford City Council taken at the 2011 Census was 15,483.

The Bradford to Keighley Road (A650) was constructed in the 1820s and with Otley Road and Saltaire Road form a triangle framing Shipley centre. They connect the town to Bradford, Leeds and the Airedale towns.  The A650 road runs past the entrance to Cottingley Business Park and is served by buses running between Bradford & Keighley every 10 minutes throughout the day.

Shipley railway station has an unusual triangular layout, serving trains on the Skipton to Leeds line, the Leeds to Bradford Forster Square line, and the Bradford to Skipton/Ilkley lines. Saltaire railway station, reopened in 1984 on the Setttle-Carlisle Line, serves the heritage village of Saltaire. Long-distance trains run south to London King’s Cross and north to Carlisle, while local trains connect the town with Leeds, Bradford and Skipton.

Saltaire is a well-known Victorian model village in Shipley, part of the City of Bradford Metropolitan District, in West Yorkshire, England. The Victorian era Salt’s Mill and associated residential district located by the River Aire and Leeds and Liverpool Canal is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

The Mill opened in 1853, the centerpiece of Sir Titus Salt’s utopian vision of Saltaire. He built the adjoining model village to house his workers. Cloth production at Salts finally ceased in 1986, and the following year the mill was purchased by the late Jonathan Silver, who re-imagined it as a place where culture and commerce could thrive together.

In 2001, Saltaire became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. UNESCO noted:

“Saltaire is an outstanding and well preserved example of a mid 19th century industrial town… The layout and architecture of Saltaire admirably reflect mid 19th century philanthropic paternalism, as well as the important role played by the textile industry in economic and social development.”

 

Cottingley is a suburban village within the City of Bradford in West Yorkshire, England between Shipley and Bingley. It is known for the Cottingley Fairies, which appeared in a series of photographs taken there during the early 20th century.

The village is only a couple of minutes drive away and includes a Post Office, bakers, fish & chip takeaway, petrol station and other useful shops and services.
